Upgrades / Updates your Krpano license

With krpano version 1.17 the license system has been changed. The previously separately available Flash and HTML5 licenses have been merged into one single license. Additionally the license format also has been changed – instead of binary license files, which needed to be copied into the correct folder, now more common ‘text’ license keys, which need to be registered in the application, will be used. Due these changes, older licenses need to be updated or upgraded.

The Kolor team has just released a new final version for Panotour and Panotour Pro our virtual tour software.
This update is free for all users of version 2 and does not require a new registration key. This version is optimized: loading projects and building tours is now incredibly faster.

Panotour and Panotour Pro 2.1 also enhance support for Ricoh Theta: the software automatically detects pictures shot with this device and offers you to load new presets dedicated to Ricoh Theta virtual tours.

Additionally, this update brings several bug fixes and visual enhancements.

Panotour automatically detects your panoramas shot with a Ricoh Theta device.

If the gyroscope settings of your Theta during the shooting indicates that the panorama is not leveled, Panotour asks you if you want to automatically fix the horizon.

If you answer yes, a new file will be generated, and this new file will be used instead of the original Theta file.

We added two new presets dedicated to Ricoh Theta virtual tours, to enhance your Theta experience.

Loading time reduced by up to 100x when opening a project

Loading a saved project in Panotour is now incredibly fast.

When you save a project, Panotour now saves 2 files.

A “.kpt” file, like before, containing all the source data of the project and all its parameters.

And a new “.cache” file.

This new file contains some optional data used during the loading of a project and during the build of a tour.

This file can be lost without any incidence on your project, except the performance during load and build times.

Just a quick bench done on the project of the “Lac du Bourget” tour : Le Lac du Bourget

This tour contains 23 panoramas including 3 gigapixels.

Loading this project took 22 minutes with version 2.0.

Once saved with version 2.1, the loading takes 12 seconds only!

In this case the opening is 100x faster!

Memory usage significantly reduced

The new “.cache” file stores a resized version of your panoramas.

When Panotour loads a project, it doesn’t load the full resolution version of your panoramas anymore, but their smaller version.

The full resolution version of the panoramas is automatically loaded during the build stage if required, or you can load it by yourself in the hotspot editor, if you think that the reduced version of the panorama is too small to place your spots correctly.

If the panorama had been previously built and if it does not need to be built again, the full resolution version of the panorama won’t be loaded.

Reduced build time

When Panotour builds a tour, it cuts each panorama into many tiles for a dynamic and smooth loading of the tour in a browser. When you build the tour once again, Panotour checks if all the tiles have already been correctly generated. This step can take a long time on big panoramas or if your project contains a lot of panoramas.

You can avoid this check on each panorama, by telling Panotour to not generate its tiles.

When a panorama is marked “Do not generate tiles”, a new icon appears over its thumbnail in the main area of Panotour to indicate which panorama will not be built anymore.

You can uncheck this option at any moment.

You can customize the spot style of automatically geolocalized spots

When you geolocalize a panorama and decide to automatically create a spot at this location, you can now change the style and the tooltip of this automatic spot.

Bing Maps layer usage inside Panotour Pro

You can now set your geolocalized spots over a Bing Maps layer inside Panotour Pro.

This layer requires a key to be used. This key is used internally, it may be different of the one set in the PanotourMaps plugin parameter.

The key can be entered in the Preferences window, or directly in the spot editor.

Add a specific thumbnail for your tour that will be displayed on social media when sharing it

In the Project properties, you can select a specific thumbnail, on the left of the project name.

This thumbnail will be copied in the tour and used by social media when the tour will be shared.

Projects are now saved in a way that does not depend on the language you choosed to run Panotour.

That was the case with 2.0 projects.

So when you will open a project saved with version 2.0, you’ll have to run Panotour with the language used to save this project.

If you do not so, you may loose some actions on some plugins and spots.

Melkadida is the largest refugee camp in the region of Dollo Ado, a desert region in Ethiopia close to the border with Somalia. It shelters more than 40.000 refugees from Somalia who had to escape their home country due to war, uncertainty, drought or loss of their livelihood.

Shelters and resources are provided by the Ethiopian government’s Administration for Refugee and Returnee Affairs (ARRA), the UN and countless national and international NGO’s funded by public and private donors. Despite this help, the living conditions in Melkadida and the other camps of the Dollo Ado region are really harsh as thousands of persons, mostly children, are surviving without real prospects for the future.

Johannes Korge, journalist at SPIEGEL ONLINE, one of the most influential weekly newspaper in Germany, and Jürgen Schrader, renowned panoramist photographer and president of the IVRPA, decided to show the world how men, women and children were living in this camp.

To do so, they have chosen to combine videos, pictures and virtual tours to create an immersive and informational experience about Melkadida camp. This multimedia experience has been created with Kolor solutions: Autopano Giga and Panotour Pro and specific developments.

Kolor just launched a new public beta for the virtual tour creation software Panotour and Panotour Pro. This version 2.2 brings exciting new improvements and is free for all Panotour 2.x users.

Panotour Pro parallax effect

A new feature has been added to Panotour Pro, you can now create parallax effect on images. The parallax is “the effect whereby the position or direction of an object appears to differ when viewed from different position”¹. It seems complex but basically this new feature allows you to give an effect of depth to your image. It feels like an element that you choose on the image is closer to your eyes than the background, the other elements on the picture. It gives a stunning 3D effect to your virtual tour and brings the experience to a whole new level of immersion.
Here is an example shot close to the Kolor headquarters in Savoie, France. You can see that a parallax effect has been added to the clouds which gives a more realistic and animated feeling to the tour.

In this other example shot by Dominik Baumann in a Swiss Air Force plane of the PC-7 TEAM a parallax effect has been added to the other aircrafts.

Kolor just released a brand new virtual tour player: Panotour Viewer. This software, still in open beta stage, allows you to display your virtual tours created with Panotour and Panotour Pro on any computer with Panotour viewer installed on it. You don’t need an internet connection anymore to show your favorite creations to your customers and friends.

To do so, you’ll need the latest version of Panotour / Panotour Pro the 2.2 which allows you to export your tours in .PTV format. This single .PTV file contains your whole tour and you just need to drag and drop it in Panotour viewer to display your tour on your favorite internet browser. It is free and easy to use, there is no need to host your tour anymore.

Kolor just released a final version for his virtual tour player: Panotour Viewer. This software allows you to display your virtual tours created with Panotour and Panotour Pro on any computer with Panotour viewer installed on it. You don’t need an internet connection anymore to show your favorite creations to your customers and friends and it’s totally free!
IOS and Android versions are under development and are coming pretty soon… Stay tuned.

This final version fixes several bugs, read the change low below for more information.

Kolor releases today a first beta of Panotour / Panotour Pro 2.3 virtual tour software.
This version corrects a crash that occured on Mac. We suggest all our Mac users to try this version.

We’re also introducing some new features:

Just take a look to the templates delivered with Panotour Pro to know which changes you need to do in your custom templates.

Gyroscope and Gyroscope buttons in control bars

We added the possibility to enable/disable the gyroscope according to the kind of devices.

Moreover, the button that enables/disables the gyroscope of the mobiles and tablets, did the opposite of what it should.

This bug was not noticeable until we did some changes in the gyroscope management templates.

So we changed all the control-bars delivered with Panotour/Panotour Pro to fix their Gyro buttons.

If you are using custom control bars and if these bars use a Gyro button based on ours you’ll have to change the code of this button.

Kolor just released a new release candidate version for Panotour / Panotour Pro, the virtual tour creation software.
This version 2.3 RC1 corrects some bugs encountered by Mac users on previous Panotour versions. Thus, we suggest to all Mac users to update to this new version which is of course free for all Panotour 2.x users.

Some new features and improvements have also been added:

• Polygonal hotspots are now working on both Flash and HTML5 players.
• The social networks integration has been improved through the Social Share Plugin: it now supports Digg, Tumblr, Delicious, Reddit and StumbleUpon. It is also now possible to resize the buttons displayed in the plugin.
• PanotourMaps plugin: Yandex maps layers are now supported.
• A new action allowing you to display a web video from Youtube or Vimeo directly behind a spot, a button or any action caller has been added.
• A new option in the settings allows you to create a backup timestamped version of your project each time you hit the save icon.

This virtual tour made by Martin showcases UNDP current projects in Lebanon to mitigate the impact of the Syria Crisis by improving livelihoods and service provision in most affected areas. Moreover, promoting peace building and strengthening the capacities of key national institutions for recovery coordination and crisis management.

Martin made another virtual tour showcases UNDP current projects in Jordan to mitigate the impact of the Syria Crisis by supporting the solid waste management sector through the provision of equipment and material, rehabilitation and upgrading of infrastructure, as well as assist municipalities in the implementation of their annual work plans.

This new plugin available in Panotour Pro allows you to display the Frame rate (Frames per second) of your tour

New action : display a Web video

This action allows you to display a video hosted on Youtube or Vimeo directly from a spot, a button or any other action caller.

Context menu can be displayed on touch devices

Press and hold your finger to make the context menu appear.

You can disable context menu on touch device with an option in Context Menu plugin.

The regression that broke the panorama and group placement at each project opening is now fixed. Panoramas and groups are positioned correctly.

HTML templates enhancements

We added some internal templates that ease the creation of HTML templates.

But all your previous custom HTML templates have to be upgraded using new internal templates.

Simply have a look at the templates delivered with Panotour Pro to know the changes you need to do in your custom templates.

Gyroscope and Gyroscope buttons in control bars

We added the possibility to enable/disable the gyroscope feature based on the kind of device on which the tour is displayed.

Additionally, the button that enables/disables the gyroscope on mobiles and tablets, did the opposite of what it should have done.

This bug was not noticeable until we did some changes in the gyroscope management templates.

So we changed all the control-bars delivered with Panotour/Panotour Pro to fix their Gyro buttons.

If you are using custom control bars and if these bars use a Gyro button based on ours you’ll have to change the code of this button.

Use new krpano panorama player version 1.18.1

Tours generated with Panotour Pro 2.3 version use last krpano 1.18.1 version.

Kolor has just released a new version for Panotour / Panotour Pro, the virtual tour creation software.
This version 2.3.1 fixes several bugs for both MacOS and Linux versions.This new version is of course free for all Panotour 2.x users, please consult the change log below if you want to know more.

MacOS

We upgraded the graphical library used by Panotour/PanotourPro on MacOS.

The refresh of the graphical interface should now be faster.

Some crashes that happened on MacOS may be fixed now as they seemed to occur in some display processes that are not called anymore, but as we never reproduced them, we cannot ensure it.

Yosemite support is still in progress. Main features of the interface are working now, but Fullscreen for example is still buggy.

Linux

This version fixes a major issue on Linux. Users do not have to register every time they run Panotour/PanotourPro any more.

Windows

If you faced some crashes on Windows 32bits, this version may not fix them. We are still working on this major issue.

Use new krpano released version 1.18.2

HTML samples have been enhanced

If you used some custom templates found on the sample page (http://www.autopano.net/wiki-en/action/view/Panotour_Pro_2_-_HTML_Templates#EXAMPLES_OF_CUSTOM_HTML_TEMPLATES) or if you created your own HTML template based on those samples, then you should download the new ones.
