Virtual tours stimulate creativity: a beautiful example with a virtual tour of a comic strip

The definition attributed to a virtual tour is well known by everyone. “A set of dynamic panoramas allowing a simulation of an existing location according to the end user’s request”.

However, Abdou Diouri (photograph) & NkodeM (rapper & cartoonist of Manioka, a comic book claiming to be a futuristic & ironic metaphor on topical urban drifts), by their common work, bring something new to the building of virtual tours…

Virtual tours can serve many other causes as in this case, drawing and promoting a new comic book

Indeed, Manioka brilliantly shows that virtual tours are not only dedicated to world of photography, on the contrary! Virtual tours can serve many other causes as in this case, drawing and promoting a new comic book.

Abdou Diouri, author of the virtual tour, unveils a few secrets on how he turned a generic virtual tour to serve the comic strip: “Panotour Pro has been the ideal tool to deploy the graphic design of Manioka. It allowed a deep immersion in the comic strip by also adding the music, another strong element in the universe of Manioka. To make the virtual tour, we proceeded by trial and error by using the 3D editor to help us.  For some elements whose deformations were unpredictable, we transformed the drawing into cube face. Which helped us to draw the main character for example”.
This splendid result proves very well that the virtual tour can broaden its own creativity including:
• The 3D localized sounds (like those used in this visit)
• The insertion of video or moving images
• The customization of graphical themes

On its website, Blick.ch tells us a nice story… A six-month-old baby’s heart has stopped. As Dr Michael Hubler (right) and his team repair a hole in Fabrizio’s heart, the boy is kept alive in the 90-minute procedure by the heart-lung machine behind the surgeon at the Children’s Hospital in Zurich pumping blood into his body.

An operation on a six-month-old baby

Dominik Baumann worked since last fall to get a permission for doing this panoramashooting. He had to wear clothes like the doctor to be sterile and was not allowed to come closer than 1 meter to the surgery table. Thanks to Panotour Pro, Dominik added hotspots to explain important steps & functions of each person during a heart surgery. This tour was published in Blick.ch’s website as well on the iPad App of Blick.

Each person has a crucial job

Happily, the operation has been a great success. A week after this picture was taken, Fabrizio was able to leave hospital with his mother. All’s well that ends well…

Doctor's delight for his patient next day

Jerzy Pajor won the title of Kolor best panoramic photographer 2012. Let us get to know with this talented photographer.

Jerzy, last year you won the title of Kolor best panoramic photographer 2012 with the panorama “Bazylika Mariacka (Krakow)”. What did this victory mean to you?

I was very happy. My friends and family were proud of my prize. The priest of the Bazylika also enjoyed & congratulated me a lot. He bought 10 Panobooks!

Could you remind us some details about the shot & the image “Bazylika Mariacka (Krakow)”?

The Bazylika Mariacka is one of the most beautiful churches in Poland. It was very interesting experience. I started to shot panorama at 6 am to avoid crowd and took 7 hours, because there was low light. I used exposure time 1/30 – 10 seconds, Canon EOS 5 MarkII + Canon EF 50mm f/1,4 + Nodal Ninja 5, 71 images + 30 images HDR, Autopano Giga, Photoshop, Panotour Pro.

After your prize, did you lead other projets?

I won an excellent panoramic motorized head and I create many wonderful gigapixel projects such as the valuable gothic stained glass – excellent example about how to correct geometry in Autopano!

I also made the 5 gigapixels photography The Veit Stoss altar, a virtual tour of Lausanne, the Schweizer National-Circus KNIE and many more. I love this job! In all projects I use my Panogear, Autopano Giga and Panotour Pro.

We have already received more than 1 000 panoramas but I did not see your name in the list of contributors. What are you ploting :) ?

I will send my panorama soon because this week I have a session in a very interesting place…

Do you think that this year, you will finish in the top 5?

I’m not thinking about winning, I prefer to be surprised again.

When will Panotour Pro 2.0 be released?

$
0
0

Panotour Pro 2 – virtual tour softwareKolor is currently developing Panotour and Panotour Pro 2.0, the new version of the world’s reference virtual tour software application for Windows, Mac and Linux.

Visit the special Panotour Pro 2.0 page to discover the new features of this version.

When will the public beta be available?

Our team is still fixing some bugs reported during the private beta stage. If no major bug arises in the coming weeks, we expect a first public beta to be ready by the end of September. Of course, we’d like this public beta to be as stable and usable as possible, this is why it is so important to take time to hunt and fix as many bugs as possible.

Can I already try Panotour Pro 2.0?

A private beta is currently available. Private means it is reserved to well-informed public used to testing software that is still under development. If you’d like to apply for a private beta access, contact us and request access. We advise you not to join this beta program if you’re a beginner in virtual tour creation or if you’re not used to trying software that is under development. The current version of Panotour Pro 2.0 is still buggy and the aim of this beta program is to find the bugs and solve them before the final release.

When will the final version be released?

However precise our roadmap is, we’re dependent on the bugs that will inevitably arise during the beta stage. To avoid any disappointment, we prefer not to communicate any date for the final release. We know there is a huge expectation on this piece of software and we do our best to match two goals at the same time: release the final version as quickly as possible while providing a software application that is stable and that you’ll be able to use serenely.

Do I need to wait for the final release or should I just use the beta right now?

As you may know, we’re already selling the licenses for version 2 on the Kolor Store. This lets you unlock the demo mode of the private beta and use it as registered software. So if you’re happy with the private beta, you can already use it in your work. If you prefer to wait for the first public beta, you’ll still be able to buy a license and register your software at that moment. The application will get more and more stable as we approach the final release, so you don’t really need to wait for the release to begin using it.

What are the differences between version 1.8 and version 2?

The new version of the world’s reference virtual tour software application for Windows, Mac and Linux come with new features. Have a look on differences between version 1.8 and version 2.0.

Prerequisites

Some Panotour plugins are written in JavaScript/HTML5 code. So if you build an Adobe Flash tour, and you want to test it locally, you’ll need to test the tour within a local webserver. Panotour contains an internal webserver, so you do not need a webserver if you click on the “View last built tour” green icon.

Demo mode limitations

Even if we’re in a beta stage, you can already purchase a license of Panotour 2 or Panotour Pro 2 to unlock the demo mode. If you already own a license of version 1.x, discover your special upgrade options. Without a registration code, you can still work with Panotour / Panotour Pro 2.0 but you’ll get the following limitations:

  • XML is crypted, so you cannot edit the tour afterwards.
  • A watermark is displayed on the tiles generated by Panotour / Panotour Pro.
  • A watermark is displayed in the player when you show the tour through a web-server.
  • You can upload the tour on a website and it will work, but with the above limitations.

Notes for the testers of the private alpha

IMPORTANT
This first public beta contains a known issue on the Gallery plugin. If your Alpha project contains a gallery, you’ll have to remove this plugin and recreate it.
If you do not re-create your gallery plugin, a crash will occur during the build of the tour.

New features

User Interface

- Tour File system management
During the process of a tour creation you may build your tour many times, with different parameters, different panoramas, etc…
The directory in which you build your tour may contains extra files that are not needed by the last built tour.
A file manager window describing which files are mandatory and which files seem to be useless can be opened using the last icon of the toolbar.
The “red” files are the files that the tour built by Panotour may not need.
You can delete those files by checking them, and click on the “Delete selected files” button.
If you did not copied any file into the tour data directory, all the red files should be deleted.
If you copied some files into this directory, and if those files are needed by the tour, be sure to uncheck them if you click on the “Selection/Not needed files” button.

- Replace panorama file
A new entry is available in the contextual menu of a panorama.
Select a single panorama in the “Tour” area, and right click to see this new entry : “Replace panorama file”.
This entry allows you to replace the image(s) file(s) of the panorama.
The new image should have the same aspect ratio as the original image.
If you set some spots in the original image, the new image should also have the same heading to be sure that the spots fit the new panorama.
But they can have a different size. So you can for example have a low res version of a gigapixel panorama during your tour creation process, and when you are ready, change the panorama file with the gigapixel one.
This feature also allows you to prepare a big tour before the panoramas are even shot.

The change log

Important Note

During the first run of Panotour/Panotour Pro 2.0 Beta 2, starting the application may take some time.
This extra time that will occur only during this first session is due to the removal of all temporary files that Panotour Pro did not erased in the previous beta version.
With this new version every temporary file used in a Panotour/Panotour Pro session are erased when closing Panotour.

New feature

The Panotour team is currently focused on bugs fixes, so no new feature should appear until the final release.
But we added a small one. In version 1.8, you were able to call external JavaScript functions on hotspots, but this was missing in version 2.0 beta 1.
Now the action chooser, on hotspot styles and on buttons plugins, contains a new advanced action: “Call a JavaScript function”.

Livepano

With the Livepano addon for Panotour Pro 2, your virtual tours come to life! Insert one or more video zones within the photographic content: Livepano automatically places the videos above the background panorama and you can adjust its blending mask for the best possible inclusion quality. Discover in this article why you need Autopano Pro/Giga 3 and Panotour Pro 2 to create Livepano-enabled virtual tours.

Software you need to use Livepano

Use Autopano Pro 3 or Autopano Giga 3 to stitch the images of your panoramas

Livepano enables to remap one or several videos on a spherical panorama. The way the remapping is done depends on the way the stitching is done.

Autopano Pro and Autopano Giga software have their own camera/lens model and Livepano uses it to correctly remap the video onto the panorama. It is a mathematical modelization of the sensor/lens couple, proper to Autopano. This is why the stitching of the panorama has to be done with either Autopano Pro 3 or Autopano Giga 3. Other mathematical modelizations like the ones of Adobe or Panotools will not work.

Thus, stitching the spherical panorama in Autopano Pro 3 or Autopano Giga 3 guarantees a proper integration of Livepano videos in your virtual tours.

Use Panotour Pro 2 to integrate your Livepano videos in your virtual tours

You need Panotour Pro 2 because Livepano is an addon that runs within this application. When you activate your Livepano licence in Panotour Pro 2, you have access to the Livepano wizard which guides you through the video incorporation and the blending process.
